Volkswagen India is gearing up to introduce the facelifted version of the Taigun SUV in the Indian market. The model has been spotted testing multiple times, hinting that its official debut is just around the corner. With the recent launch of the Skoda Kushaq facelift, expectations are high that the updated Taigun will follow soon, likely in April 2026.
Refreshed Exterior Design
The facelifted Volkswagen Taigun is expected to receive noticeable styling updates, especially at the front. Spy images reveal a sleeker grille design, complemented by new LED headlamps and redesigned LED DRLs connected by a slim light strip. An illuminated Volkswagen logo at the front further enhances its modern appeal.
The front bumper has been revised for a cleaner and sharper look. While the side profile remains largely unchanged, the SUV may feature newly designed alloy wheels. Key elements like roof rails, shark-fin antenna, blacked-out B-pillars, and body-coloured ORVMs are expected to be retained.
At the rear, the Taigun facelift gets updated taillights, possibly with a thicker full-width LED strip. There are also indications of an illuminated Volkswagen badge at the back. The rear bumper has been redesigned with reduced chrome usage and a smoother silver skid plate. Additionally, the reflectors have been repositioned vertically for a more contemporary appearance.
Interior and Feature Upgrades
Inside the cabin, the overall layout is likely to remain familiar but with meaningful upgrades. The facelifted Taigun is expected to offer enhanced comfort and technology features to stay competitive.
Key expected additions include a panoramic sunroof, rear-seat massage function, and a fully digital instrument cluster. The infotainment system may also feature AI-based integration for a more intuitive user experience.
Other anticipated features include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless charger, premium six-speaker audio system with subwoofer and amplifier, automatic climate control, leatherette upholstery, and ventilated, electrically adjustable front seats.
On the safety front, the SUV is expected to come well-equipped with six airbags, ABS, EBD, traction control, cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, reverse camera, all-wheel disc brakes, rain-sensing wipers, and more.
Powertrain and Performance
Under the hood, Volkswagen is expected to retain the existing engine options but introduce an important transmission update.
The 1.0-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine will likely be paired with a new 8-speed torque converter automatic gearbox, replacing the current 6-speed unit. This upgrade is expected to deliver smoother gear shifts and improved fuel efficiency.
This engine produces 115 hp and 175 Nm of torque.
The more powerful 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine will continue to deliver 150 hp and 250 Nm of torque. It is expected to be offered with a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission.
Ending Summary
The Volkswagen Taigun facelift is shaping up to be a significant update with refreshed styling, enhanced features, and improved transmission technology. With its expected launch in April 2026, the updated SUV aims to strengthen Volkswagen’s position in India’s highly competitive compact SUV segment.
